This website was set up mainly to show images of the Corryvreckan Gulf and the infamous whirlpool which lies within it.
The whirlpool lies off the west coast of Scotland between the island of Jura (famous as the place where George Orwell wrote 1984) and the uninhabited island of Scarba.
Put simply the whirlpool is caused by a tall pinnacle of rock situated towards the west side of the gulf which rises to within 30 metres of the surface, when the water coming through the gulf meets this it produces the whirlpool. For a more detailed explanation see the 'about' section above.
